Tree Planting:
1. | Dig a hole 2-3 times the width of the container and only as deep as the height of the rootball. |
2. | Set rootball just above ground level (approximately1"). |
3. | Do NOT mix any amendments into the native soil. Carefully place the native soil around the rootball, gently tamping it down with a shovel end or your foot as you backfill to remove air pockets, being careful not to step directly on the rootball as it may damage the roots. |
4. | Do not cover the top of the rootball with soil so that water can penetrate it. |
5. | Build basin around outside of rootball and water thoroughly. |
Shrub Planting:
1. | Dig a hole 2-3 times the width of the container and only as deep as the the height of the rootball. |

3. | Backfill with native soil or with an amended soil with a ratio of 25% amendment to 75% native soil, gently tamping it down with a shovel end or your foot as you backfill to remove air pockets, being careful not to step directly on the rootball as it may damage the roots. |
4. | Do not cover the top of the rootball with soil so that water can penetrate it. |
5. | Build basin around outside of rootball and water thoroughly. |
