Description

The California black oak is a deciduous tree that grows 30'-80' tall. It has sharply lobed, green leaves which turn yellow to orange in the fall. The black oak is a CA native, is drought tolerant, and attracts butterflies. It prefers afternoon shade in warm, inland valleys. It is a long lived tree; some are 500 years old!

Water Saving Tip:

Change spray sprinklers to low-flow bubbler or drip systems. Shrubs and trees are ideal candidates for this type of irrigation because the water is applied directly to the root zones.
