Introduction - Watering Guide

Select the Watering Guide tab at the top of the Main page to display watering guidelines on a month-by-month basis, customized  for the greater Fresno region.

The correct irrigation system, when properly scheduled and maintained, can result in significant water savings and lower water bills. The goal of an efficient watering schedule is to irrigate using only the amount of water that is needed by the types of plants that are used.

Most landscapes are over-watered using as much as 50 - 60 percent more water than what the plants need. In Fresno, for example, the per capita water use is approximately 300 gallons/day. Out of that 300 gallons that each of us uses on average, as much as 200 gallons goes on our lawns and flowerbeds, and 100 gallons of that is wasted by overwatering.
