This fast-growing, coniferous evergreen is capable of reaching a size of 80' high by 40' wide. Its needles are a light, silvery green color, 2" long. Flowers are inconspicuous. Barrel shaped cones appear in fall and winter. Branches are pendulous and spreadings. Plant in area that has ample room for growth.

Picea glauca is an evergreen tree,Cone-shaped, reaching 60'-70' tall. It has dense, stiff, blue green needles, with pendulous branches. Light brown cones appear on this tree in late summer/early fall. It prefers well draining, sandy soil in full sun. Please note that Picea generally do not grow well in Sunset Zones 8 and 9.

Hypericum calycinum is an evergreen perennial groundcover. It reaches less than 1' tall and spreads 2'. Yellow flowers bloom in the summer. Foliage is dark green. In some areas, it is considered invasive. It prefers sandy and alkaline soil, full or part sun. It will not bloom if planted in complete shade. This is a great plant for a difficult hillside.

Physical weed control, including mulching, or hand removal protects the watershed from harmful chemicals.
Replace turf with groundcovers, trees, and shrubs. If you have areas where no one uses the grass, patches that do not grow well, or a turf area too small to water without runoff, consider replacing the turf with water-efficient landscaping.
Attract, or buy beneficial insects such as ladybugs and lacewings to control pest outbreaks in your garden.
